Fresh meat, in its natural and untouched form is gluten-free. However, there are certain things to consider when purchasing meat because there are many ways that meat can be contaminated with gluten.
For examples:
- Are there any added ingredients/flavorings to the meat that may contain gluten?
- Is the meat in a cooler with other products that contain gluten which would introduce the chance for cross-contamination?
- Is the meat slicer also being used to slice products that contain gluten?
Many times pre-packaged meat is your best bet since it usually does not have the same risks as outlined above.
